Eco Safeway (headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida) serves as the official U.S. representative and dealer for Finsulate®, an award-winning, biocide-free alternative to toxic antifouling bottom paints.
Instead of relying on chemical toxins like copper that leach into the ocean, Finsulate takes a mechanical approach to protecting a vessel's hull.
How It Works: The Sea Urchin Principle
Invented by Dutch materials scientist Rik Breur, Finsulate is a patented, self-adhesive wrap featuring a dense, "fuzzy" exterior layer of tiny nylon microfibers.
-
The Mechanism: This texture mimics the physical defense of sea urchins. Because the surface is covered in flexible spikes, marine organisms like barnacles, mussels, and algae cannot find a flat, stable surface to anchor their bodies.
-
Easy Cleaning: If any light biofilm or growth manages to settle on the very tips of the fibers over time, it cannot take strong hold. It can be easily brushed off or pressure-washed away while the boat is in the water, requiring zero scraping or toxic runoff containment.
Core Product Grades
Eco Safeway offers different variations of the Finsulate wrap optimized for specific vessel types and environments:
-
Seagrade: Engineered for maximum performance in saltwater environments where aggressive biofouling (like barnacles and plume worms) is highly prevalent.
-
Lakegrade: Optimized for freshwater environments. Focuses heavily on resisting algae, lake mussels, and chalk/calcium accumulation.
-
Speedgrade: Designed specifically for fast-planing hulls and high-speed commercial vessels to minimize hydrodynamics trade-offs.
-
Seagrade EL: A maximum-endurance wrap built for offshore installations, stationary platforms, and large commercial vessels intended to stay submerged without drydocking for up to 20 years.
